Building gingerbread houses has never been my strong suit. I still remember a Christmas café I organized, where I hosted an event for kids to decorate gingerbread houses. My job was to build the houses ahead of time so the kids could unleash their creativity. Little did I know how much work it would be! I had never made a gingerbread house from scratch—I only ever used pre-made kits. That day, 14 kids showed up, and I spent hours assembling house after house, meticulously grating uneven walls with a cheese grater to make them fit. It was chaotic, to say the least! But in the end, the kids had a blast, which made it all worthwhile. 😊
A few years later, I discovered a delightful twist on this tradition: chocolate houses! Fazer, the Finnish chocolatier, inspired me to try building with chocolate instead of gingerbread. It turned out to be so much easier—and way more fun!
I tend to keep my designs pretty simple (I guess I’m a bit of a minimalist), but the beauty of chocolate houses is that you can get as creative as you like. Let your imagination run wild!
To build your chocolate house, you’ll need chocolate bars. Use your favorite brand. Start by cutting the chocolate bars as shown in the photos, then “glue” them together with melted chocolate.
