Chocolate Salami
Chocolate salami is a delightful no-bake dessert perfect for the holiday season. It’s easy to make and perfect for kids to make. With a mix of rich chocolate, crunchy pistachios, and sweet cookie pieces, it’s a treat that looks as good as it tastes.
When I was younger, making chocolate salami was always a special part of our Christmas preparations. I loved breaking the cookies into pieces and seeing them transform into the marbled pattern in the finished salami.
Chocolate salami is a versatile treat that can be adapted to suit your preferences. Swap pistachios for another nut, or experiment with different chocolates. It’s a perfect make-ahead dessert that adds a festive flair to any holiday gathering.
Ingredients
- 150 g dark or milk chocolate
- 150 g Maria cookies
- 1 dl salted pistachios
- 150 g butter, at room temperature
- 1.5 dl powdered sugar
- 5 tbsp cocoa powder
Instructions
- Melt the chocolate gently over a double boiler or in short intervals in the microwave. Let it cool slightly—make sure it’s still liquid but not hot enough to melt the butter mixture later.
- Break the Maria cookies into uneven chunks, about the size of small pebbles. Chop the pistachio. This gives the salami its classic textured appearance.
- Whip the butter in a large mixing bowl for about one minute until light and fluffy. Add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, then whip again until smooth and well combined.
- Gradually pour the melted chocolate into the butter mixture while whisking. Mix until the chocolate is fully blended in.
- Add the chopped cookies and pistachios to the chocolate mixture. Use a spatula to fold everything together until evenly distributed.
- Scoop the mixture onto a sheet of parchment paper. Roll and shape it into a log about 4–5 cm in diameter. Wrap the log tightly in the parchment paper and twist the ends to secure.
- Place the wrapped log in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or until firm.
- Once the salami is firm, remove it from the fridge and dust the outside with powdered sugar to create the classic “salami” look. Slice into 1 cm pieces and serve.
